Putting the Pieces in Place: The Power of Services Thinking

To implement its business strategy, a company needs to pull its assets together in an efficient manner. That’s where Services Thinking comes in, a new, broader approach to Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Multitasking is all the rage these days, but even when we think we’re getting things accomplished, we’re actually being less effective than if we focused on one task exclusively. Companies don’t have that luxury, though — they have to multitask. But because the responsibilities for those tasks are distributed among so many different departments, there’s often a lack of coordination. Services Thinking offers businesses a framework for solving problems by putting the right components in place using a common set of priorities, allowing companies to rapidly adapt to dynamic market conditions.

Highlights:

How does Services Thinking foster collaboration between business leaders and information technology teams, and how can it lead to a shared business strategy with a single approach that can meet business objectives?
What kind of problems can a company solve by employing Services Thinking?
What are some examples or case studies of this new approach in action?
With the economy in such turmoil, is this a good time for companies to consider a new approach such as Services Thinking?
Guests:
Larry Calabro, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP
Rich Spear, director, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Internet pioneer Vint Cerf acknowledges that Internet service providers need to figure out how to manage network traffic. But, he says, they're doing it all wrong. He's posted a blog calling for online speed limits, as opposed to data volume caps, but will ISPs follow his suggestion?

The last week has brought a flurry of news of tech companies jumping into the cloud computing game. CNET's Charles Cooper and Dan Farber talk about what led up to this trend.
