Trends in Application and Portal Development:

The Commonwealth's
BSCoE and Aqualogic Projects

Over the last year, much activity has occurred in two coinciding areas of IT within the Commonwealth – application development and portal technology. Concerted efforts have been underway to establish best practices in both these areas, and to move toward an overall environment wherein reusability becomes the norm. These are the domains of the Business Solutions Center of Excellence (BSCoE) and Aqualogic projects.

This presentation will provide an overview of milestones reached over the last year in regards to enterprise portal development, reusable technical and process assets, and inter-agency collaboration. Additionally, we will examine what is imminent, such as the implementation of a metadata repository tool which will enable the discovery of these reusable assets, wherever they may exist in the enterprise.

These two projects are poised to have a dramatic impact on the Commonwealth’s overall approach to portal and application development, and the movement toward reusable business components will be evaluated as well. This presentation will provide the historical backdrop, the current status, and the vision for these two very important endeavors at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
