GIS and the Enterprise: Ensuring Sustainable Value through Integration

Presentation
Slides

In many organizations GIS has moved past “acceptance” and is quickly headed toward
“established” or even a “crucial” role within those organizations. An emerging challenge is the “right-sizing” of GIS including GIS technology, spatial data along with skills and knowledge.

Should islands of GIS continue to grow within an organization or can GIS be integrated with the rest of the organization?

How can we move the “value” of GIS into the whole organization?

How can spatial data be shared effectively across the organization and even outside the organization in a sustainable manner?

This presentation will share our experiences gained during the integration of GIS with established business processes inside a large organization with many regional offices and hundreds of employees with a business need to interact at some level with GIS. This integration has now been moved outside the single organization to include GIS data sharing, technology sharing and business process streamlining among organizations.
