Biometric identification is based on the measurement of a physiological and/or behavioral characteristic of an individual. Based on this definition, biometrics can be defined as the science of using a particular biological aspect of the human body to recognize and verify a persons identity for any activity requiring a proof of identity. This includes fingerprints, retinal and iris scanning, hand geometry, voice patterns, facial recognition and other techniques. This presentation will address the technologies available today and the applications where they are being used. Also, some of the future trends in biometrics will be addressed.
