The concept of Cyber Academy encompasses the development of awareness training for government technologists by experts specific technological areas including: active network defense, information security and network/computer forensics.
This session will cover the Cyber Academy Initiative in Pennsylvania and discuss similar initiatives in other states and by the US Department of Homeland Security. The presentation will also provide a framework for developing similar initiatives at the state and local levels.

An information security attorney and consultant, Ronald E. Plesco, Jr. assists clients through the complete information assurance process from assessment of risk and need, gap analysis, legal and regulatory compliance, through policy development, solution deployment and employee education. In addition he and his team offer over 40 consultative courses utilizing dynamic, hands-on demonstrations of cyber-threats etc on a mobile battle lab. Previously, Ron worked as the Project Director for Information Security for GW Solutions, a George Washington University Enterprise. For seven years, Ron served at the pleasure of Governor Tom Ridge as the Director of Policy for the Pennsylvania State Police, Chair Cyber Attacks Committee for the PA Homeland Security Council.
Described as an attorney who hacks, Ron has been featured on Internet Crime and Information Security in a variety of publications including: Computerworld, CERT/CC and Information Security Magazine. He is the President of the Industry, DOJ and DoD funded, National Cyber Forensic Training Alliance; President, Central Pennsylvania FBI Infragard Chapter and serves on the Pennsylvania Homeland Security Advisory Council, the National Cyber-Crime Training Partnership and the ABA Science & Technology Committee.
Ron's unique experience and non-traditional speaking style has made him an internationally recognized conference presenter. Thus far in 2003 Ron has presented the following topics: "High Technology Law", "Information Security in the Transportation Industry", "Information Security", "Corporate Information Warfare", "Information Terrorism", "Prosecution of Computer Crimes", Information Terrorism in the Financial & Retail Sectors", "Offensive Operations and Ethical Hacking". "E-Commerce Crimes", "Financial Fraud", "Hacking Live", and "Vulnerability Assessment and Security Policy," for such diverse groups as the FBI, RSA 2003, DOJ, US Army War College, HTCIA, IAFCI, NW3C, NAIC and the Energy Association. Upcoming presentation venues include: IAFCI National Conference, INFO-WARCON, MISTI-INFO Warfare Conference and the Airport, Port and Terminal Security Conference and NW3C.
